Hospitals, nursing homes & assisted living

Hospital & Care Facility Notary Visits

When someone can’t leave a hospital bed or a care facility, we come to them, anywhere in Frederick, Clarke, Warren, and Shenandoah Counties.

Bedside notarization

We come to the signer

Important paperwork doesn’t always wait for a convenient time. When a family member is in the hospital, a nursing home, or an assisted living facility, we travel to the facility and meet the signer at the bedside.

Documents we can notarize during a facility visit include:

  • Powers of Attorney
  • Medical Directives
  • Wills & Trusts
  • Affidavits

We don’t give legal advice or suggestions about documents.

Requirements

Before a bedside visit

  • The signer must be present and able to communicate with the notary. If the signer can’t communicate with us during the visit, we can’t complete the notarization.
  • Photo ID. The signer needs a current, unexpired government-issued photo ID acceptable to a Virginia notary, such as a driver’s license, state ID card, U.S. passport, or military ID. Not sure your ID qualifies? Contact us before your appointment.
  • Witnesses. If the document requires witnesses, please arrange for them to be there. We do not provide witnesses.
  • Visitor policies. We travel to hospitals and care facilities throughout our service area, including the hospitals listed above, but each facility sets its own visitor policies, and those policies apply to our visits. We are not affiliated with any hospital.

Fees and hours

Facility visits are priced like any other appointment: up to $10 per notarial act (Virginia Code § 47.1-19), plus a travel fee of $0.76 per mile, one-way from Stephens City. There are no other fees, with no minimums and no after-hours or rush fees. The travel estimator on our homepage gives an estimate.

We’re available Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Areas we serve

We make facility visits across our whole service area: Winchester & Frederick County, Front Royal & Warren County, Shenandoah County, and Berryville & Clarke County. Have more questions? See our notary FAQ.
